CEREC Single-Day Restorations
What is CEREC technology?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Put simply, it’s a high-tech system that allows your CEREC crown dentist to design and create high-quality ceramic restorations right here in our studio while you wait.
Melbourne Dental Studio uses advanced CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing) technology to provide a dental crown same day. This means no more messy, silicone-based “putty” impressions, no uncomfortable temporary caps, and — most importantly — no need for a second visit two weeks later. Whether you need a dental crown to restore cracked teeth or are undergoing a comprehensive smile makeover, CEREC provides a fast, precise, and beautiful solution.
Key benefits of
CEREC technology
CEREC crowns offer significant advantages for anyone who values their time and the quality of their dental work.
- Single-Visit Convenience: Walk in with a damaged tooth and walk out with a permanent, high-quality restoration in a single session.
- No Messy Impressions: We use a digital 3D scanner to capture a “virtual map” of your mouth in seconds — no gagging on putty or unpleasant tastes.
- Digital Precision: The 3D software ensures a highly accurate fit that integrates perfectly with your natural bite.
- Biocompatible Materials: We use high-grade dental ceramic that mimics the look, feel, and strength of natural tooth enamel.
- Preserve Your Natural Tooth: CEREC technology helps us keep more of your healthy tooth structure intact, compared to traditional methods.
- Zero Temporary Crowns: With your new crown crafted and placed within 2 hours, you don’t need to risk your temporaries falling out before your final appointment.

Aftercare and maintenance for your CEREC restoration
Your CEREC crowns, inlays, or veneers are designed to be as durable as your natural teeth. Because they are bonded so securely, they are highly resistant to leaks and decay at the edges.
While the procedure isn’t as invasive as an extraction or root canal treatment, it’s still important to maintain your dental work with a good routine. Brush twice daily and floss as normal. While CEREC is incredibly strong, we recommend avoiding chewing on ice or extremely hard objects to protect the ceramic, just as you would your natural teeth.
Frequently asked questions about CEREC
-
Yes. CEREC ceramic is highly durable and chemically bonded to the tooth. They have a similar longevity compared to traditional lab-made crowns when cared for correctly. The internal metal structure of a traditional crown can sometimes provide greater strength, but your dentist will confirm whether this is required in your case.
-
A typical same-day crown at Melbourne Dental Studio takes between 60 and 90 minutes. This appointment time includes preparation, digital design, milling time, and the final fit.
-
“Better” often depends on the clinical situation. CEREC is ideal for its speed and for preserving more natural tooth structure. However, for a treatment on a back tooth with very heavy bite forces, we may sometimes recommend a lab-made zirconia crown for maximum strength. Your dentist will assess your unique situation and confirm whether CEREC is better than a traditional crown for your needs.
-
A CEREC dental crown in Melbourne generally costs between $1,600 and $2,400. While the technology is advanced, the price is comparable to traditional crowns because there are no laboratory courier fees or temporary crown costs involved.
